BadgerBlitz.com's Wisconsin player draft: Round 13

This summer, the Badgers will be divided.

That is, they'll be separated into three imaginary teams, set against each other by a BadgerBlitz.com.com Wisconsin player draft, a daily selection in which separate groups of 23 are assembled.

Over the next four weeks, BadgerBlitz.com reporters Jon McNamara, John Veldhuis and Jessi Schoville will draft Badgers, picking players one-by-one and placing them on their respective teams, trying to assemble the best 11 on offense and defense, plus one reserve.

Then, in late July, we'll decide — based on BadgerBlitz.com.com staff and member feedback — which team would win.

Who will be selected when? How will the teams develop? What reasoning will be used?

And most importantly, do you agree with the picks? Be sure to discuss in the Badgers' Den.

Pick No. 37: CB Nick Nelson (McNamara)

Right before I made this pick I reminded Jessi and John that transfers - cornerback Nick Nelson and running back Chris James - were both eligible to be drafted. And with that, I added Nelson, who started all 13 games for Hawaii in 2015.

Nelson, 6-foot, 200 pounds, will have to sit out the 2016 season due to NCAA rules but should have a great opportunity to work with the No. 1 defense next spring with Sojourn Shelton entering his final season at Wisconsin. With Derrick Tindal already on my roster, I feel my squad now has two starting-caliber cornerbacks.

Pick No. 38: S Leo Musso (Schoville)

With my next pick I jumped back to defense, hoping to make the choices sparse for John and Jon. Both had already thinned out the offensive field, so I saw this as a way I could attempt to counter that.

I decided to go with Leo Musso. A local football star out of Waunakee, Wis., Musso is an experienced option in the Badgers' defensive backfield. Right now, Musso is the only safety on the roster with any sort of starting experience, which gives him a significant chance of obtaining the full-time role this coming fall.

Musso is undersized at 5-foot-10 and weighing 195 pounds and he did miss some spring practices due to classes, but I think his experience and the tutelage of defensive backs coach Jim Leonard will help the redshirt senior advance his game despite the detractions.

This pick wasn't necessarily to make a splash, but to secure someone who is experienced and likely to see a good chuck of game time this fall.

Pick No. 39: WR Reggie Love (Veldhuis)

The top-shelf wide receivers were off the board by the time I turned my focus to the passing game, but I thought I got pretty good value for Reggie Love this late in the draft. He hasn't made a big impact with the team since he arrived on campus, but there's still the potential for him to become a decent pass catching threat in his final year on campus.

I liked the flashes he showed in spring ball this year, but he'll have to stay on the field consistently this fall to really have a chance at making an impact. Taking Love wasn't a flashy pick, but with a run-heavy offense I was looking for upside at receiver. We'll see if he can capitalize on the chances he gets this year when the regular season rolls around.
