Badgers land Brad Davison, one of this offseason's hottest prospects

Brad Davison (Alex Conover)

Greg Gard has been recruiting Brad Davison since he entered the ninth grade at Maple Grove High School in Minnesota.

Monday, Wisconsin landed a commitment from the 6-foot-3, 190-pound senior-to-be, who saw his recruitment explode this offseason on the EYBL AAU circuit with Howard Pulley.

A three-star prospect, Davison joins guard Kobe King and forward Nathan Reuvers in UW's 2017 class. Gard still has one scholarship left to use in the current cycle, though it's believed he will elect to bank that in order to use it in 2018.

Davison, the No. 119 prospect in the country, chose UW over offers from Stanford, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina State, Georgia Tech and Nebraska, among others. He visited Madison unofficially at the end of June, the final stop on a college tour that took him to Stanford, Michigan, Northwestern, Butler, Dayton and Northern Iowa.

“I would say my favorite part (of the trip) was just getting to know the players,” Davison said of Wisconsin in a past interview with BadgerBlitz.com. “I think that’s the next step - getting to know the players. I got to meet the two new freshmen and hang out a lot with the sophomores. It was good to meet up with the players and see how I fit in with them.”

Gard, who has strong recruiting ties in the state of Minnesota, offered Davison in early June. He is expected to be a combo guard for the Badgers with the ability to play either spot in the backcourt.

“I think he’s doing a great job,” Davison said of Gard. “If you can win Coach of the Year, that’s really special. The way he turned that team around was really impressive. But I think he’s done a great job.

“I have a really good relationship with him - I’ve known him since I was in 9th grade. I’ve spent a lot of time on the phone with him, talking about my game and the program. I think our relationship has grown a lot over the years.”
